Summer Camps

To give you an idea of what to expect in 2010 here is a list of camps from the summer of 2009.


Bug Hunters!
Ages 6-9
Date: July 7-11
Time: 9:00 AM-12:00 PM
Place: Meet at The Nature Museum
Cost: Members $75; Non-members $90

Explore the pond, meadow, stream, and forest looking for six-legged friends. We'll find new ways to find, trap, and observe insects; set up a spider terrarium, and make our own spider-web designs. Bring a snack, lunch, and water.

Walk, Hop, Splash, Soar: Animal Movement
Ages 3-5
Dates and Cost: Two sessions: July 13-15 (three days), members $50, non-members $60; July 13-17 (five days), members $75, non-members $90
Time: 9:00 AM-12:00 PM
Place: Meet at The Nature Museum

A summer camp designed especially for the preschool age! Join us for several mornings of exploration and fun as we learn about how animals use feet, fins, and feathers to move around. We’ll play games, do hands-on activities, sing songs, create crafts, and explore the Museum’s gardens, meadows, woodlands, and collections during our time together. This camp is a great introduction to the natural world and to camps in general for our youngest museum friends. Bring a snack, lunch, and water.


Dangerous Camp for Boys!
Ages 9-13
Date: July 20-24
Time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM **Includes a Thursday overnight and pick-up at noon on Friday
Place: Meet at The Nature Museum
Cost: Members $225; non-members $250 lunch included

If you are a boy who loves a challenge then this is the camp for you! Create exciting projects and play games that will challenge your physical strength and stretch your mind! Activities are loosely based on Hal Iggulden’s book Dangerous Book for Boys and will include fire building, pocket knife safety, and shelter building. Bring a snack, and water. Food and Farm Camp
Ages 9-13
Date: July 27-31
Time: 10:00 AM-4:00 PM
Place: Meet at The Nature Museum
Cost: Members $150; non-members $175

Explore Grafton and beyond by growing, harvesting, cooking and eating vegetables and other plants, feeding and caring for farm animals, and participating in scavenger hunts and craft activities. Each day will include creating a tasty lunch. Bring a snack and water.


Plant Power! - Discovering How Plants and Animals
Need Each Other

Ages 6-9
Date: August 3-7
Time: 10:00 AM-2:00 PM
Place: Meet at The Nature Museum
Cost: Members $125; non-members $150

Learn about local plants and flowers through art, stories, games, and more. Make a plant identification book to take home. Learn why people and plants need each other. Bring a snack, lunch, and water.


Daring Camp for Girls!
Ages 9-13
Date: August 17-21
Time: 10:00 AM-4:00 PM: Thursday overnight, noon on Friday pick-up.
Place: 3 days at The Great River Arts Institute (33 Bridge St, Bellows Falls) & 2 days and an overnight at The Nature Museum
Cost: Members $225; Non-Members $250

The Daring Camp for Girls is loosely based on the book The Daring Book for Girls by Andrea J. Buchanan and Miriam Peskowitz which has been described as “the can-do, how-to manual for enthusiastic, unfettered adventure. It cheers girls on to be curious and brave and above all, to have fun.” Check out www.daringbookforgirls.com for more information. Last Blast: Forest Safari
Ages 6-12
Date: August 18
Time: 10:00 AM-3:00 PM
Place: Meet at The Nature Museum
Cost: Members $30; Non-Members $35

Explore the forest looking high and low for woodland creatures or signs that wild animals have left behind. From moose to mites, we'll search for signs of a multitude of creatures seen and unseen. Wear long pants and sturdy walking shoes. Bring a snack, lunch, and water.


Last Blast: Aquatic Safari
Ages 6-12
Date: August 19
Time: 10:00 AM-3:00 PM
Place: Meet at The Nature Museum
Cost: Members $30; Non-Members $35

From ponds to streams to puddles, we'll muck through and along wetlands searching for creatures and learning about the aquatic habitats of our area. Wear long pants and sturdy walking shoes or high-topped rubber boots suitable for walking. Bring a snack, lunch, and water
