At the Ladder: The Abenaki and Nature

Thousands of years ago, Abenaki people relied on nature to survive, making clothing and building shelters from natural materials.  Their food came from hunting, gathering, and fishing so knowing all about the natural world was very important.  Come listen to Native American stories, play traditional games, make a craft and imagine daily life before roads, stores, and electricity.

The Abenaki and Nature” is a part of a series of special summer programming that we are offering on Fridays and Saturdays at the Fish Ladder Visitor Center for all ages. These free drop-in sessions are led by Jay DeGregorio, one of our Environmental Educators. This program is made possible with the generous support of Great River Hydro, owners of the hydroelectric plant in Bellows Falls on the Connecticut River.

Due to a plumbing issue in June, the center was forced to close for several weeks. It will reopen on the 8th and we are thrilled to be offer this program there. Please excuse the center's appearance as we work diligently to fix the exhibits that were destroyed.
