Super storms? Seasonal shifts? Understanding our changing weather is a real challenge. Join us for the evening program presented by atmospheric scientist Dr. Alan K. Betts; he will explain how global climate change is bringing more extreme weather to New England, and raising greater challenges for society, despite the 2015 Paris agreement.
Are we on track towards an energy efficient, resilient future? The public is invited to ask questions and join in the discussion at this event.
This program is geared for adults and children over 10, and is designed to be an educational talk with Q&A for environmentalists and conservationists. Light refreshments will be served.
About Dr. Alan Betts
The Yale Forum on Climate Change and the Media has praised Betts for "addressing climate science in ways accessible to audiences concerned about their own backyards [and] in ways loyal to the most vigorous scientific principles". For the past three decades, Dr. Betts’ work as an independent scientist has been funded by NASA, NOAA, and the National Science Foundation.
In 2016, Dr. Betts received American Geophysical Union's Global Environmental Change focus group award. This award recognizes an Earth scientist "for his/her ground-breaking research or/and leadership in global environmental change through cross-disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary research in the past 10 years." In 2011, Betts authored an article called "Climate Change in Vermont" for the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources. He is a commentator for Vermont Public Radio and a newspaper columnist.
