Herrick's Cove Bee Walk with The Vermont Center For Ecostudies

Saturday 09/10/22; 9:00AM - 11:00AM. Make up date Sunday 09/11/22; 9:00AM - 11:00AM.

Herricks Cove, 4 Herricks Cove Rd, Bellows Falls, VT 05101

Sliding scale $15, $20, $25

Join VCE staff biologist and bee-watcher Nathaniel Sharp for a guided walk through Herrick's Cove in search of mason bees, cellophane bees, cuckoo bees, sweat bees, bumble bees, as well as the numerous wasp and fly look-alikes that all play important roles in pollination. There's a lot more to bees than Honeybee hives and bumbling Bumble Bees! Vermont is home to more than 330 different species of bees, and that number continues to rise as new species are discovered through the Vermont Wild Bee Survey. Feel free to bring binoculars, a camera, an insect net, and/or small clear containers to safely get up-close looks at the bees we'll encounter. Extra field equipment will be available.

IMPORTANT: This event is weather condition dependent! Bee activity is very reduced or absent  if there are certain conditions such as notable rain and/or cloud cover. We will communicate with registrants as soon as possible if the make up date and time (the following day, 09/11/22 same time) will need to be used due to weather conditions. But, we may not be able to make this determination until as late as the day before the program. Please be sure you’re available for the make up date and time.

Be aware that there are limited to no facilities at Herricks Cove. Please be prepared with whatever you need to be safe and comfortable for the duration of the program.

  • Sturdy, comfortable, and waterproof hiking shoes, boots, or other appropriate footwear

  • Trekking/walking pole(s)

  • Sufficient water

  • A snack

  • Insect repellent
