A Summer Bioblitz of the Nature Museum’s wetland, meadow, forest and gardens

Saturday, July 11th from 10AM - 2PM

Whether you’re a casual observer of the world around you or an expert scientist, join us at The Nature Museum to discover and learn together! A bioblitz is a coordinated, communal effort to observe and document as many species in an area as possible within a short period of time. On Saturday, July 11th we invite our community to help us discover the wildlife neighbors who live in the varied habitats on our grounds.

Given continued restoration and conservation efforts in the Chapman Meadow, wetland, and pollinator gardens, gathering information on species present during the summer will be important for understanding existing biodiversity on our grounds. Additionally, we’ll be submitting our findings via the app iNaturalist to further contribute citizen science data to local, regional, national, and global biodiversity repositories.

No experience is needed, and participants are welcome to stop by at any time during the Bioblitz.

No technology is required — we'll have a variety of ID guides, and staff will be happy to show you the basics of iNaturalist using your smartphone or tablet! We strongly encourage you to download the app ahead of time from the Apple Store or Google Play Store.

Participants will have the option to explore any part of the Nature Museum grounds! Areas you choose to explore may have uneven/unlevel terrain and variable ground conditions.

Unless there is hazardous weather, we’ll be blitz’ing rain or shine, so be sure to dress appropriately. You can check the forecast for Grafton here. Come prepared with proper footwear, clothing, a reusable water bottle, bug spray/sunscreen (ticks will be out!), and snacks to keep you safe and comfortable.

Contact Jay DeGregorio at jay@nature-museum.org or try giving us a call at 802-843-2111 with any questions.
