The Nature Museum Volunteer Camp Assistant - open to teens and adults

About Our Camps

All Nature Museum camps encourage play, exploration, hands-on learning, and camper-driven interests to provide rich and memorable experiences in nature. Camp agendas are subject to change as they are made to be flexible and adaptable to accommodate camper interests, outdoor conditions, camp group dynamics, and other circumstances. Our goal is to make each camp experience safe, fun, and engaging while cultivating connections to the natural world!

Volunteer Camp Assistant Description

Camp Assistants will assist the environmental education staff with all aspects of the 2026 winter, spring, and/or summer camps. We’re seeking a small number of volunteers for all or select camp days, depending on availability. Most days will feature two camps running concurrently, with one Lead Educator and one Assistant assigned to each group. (See camp dates and schedules below).

General duties will include helping us prepare materials for camp activities, looking after camp participants, leading or co-leading games/lessons/activities, and helping with break down/clean up at the end of camp days. Camp days will be spent outdoors as much as possible and involve a full day of physical activity and learning that may include, but isn’t limited to, hiking/snowshoeing, monitoring free-play time, assisting campers with clothing/gear, moving materials up to 20 pounds, and general cleaning/organizing. For winter camp days, we will take warm up breaks indoors with campers throughout the days as needed.

This is a great opportunity to gain required volunteer hours for your school or organization! It’s also a fantastic introduction to the job of an Environmental Educator! Our Environmental Educators are more than happy to work with you to show you the ropes, provide learning opportunities, and discuss anything else that you're curious about related to our job.
