The second installment of Vermont Museum of Natural History’s A Scientist Walks Into A Distillery Series:

In Nature, Queer is Everywhere!

Thursday, February 12th from 6:00pm - 7:30pm at Vermont Distillers

Free admission, donations appreciated

The strength and resiliency of ecosystems depends on diversity -- and in nature, sex and sexual behavior manifests in countless ways. Forget the talk of "male," "female," and gender essentialism -- these are human social constructs. What actually exists? Cosexual trees, gynandromorph butterflies, mushrooms with 20,000+ mating types, and sex changing species, to name a few. In this program, we'll talk about the sexual diversity that exists around the world, and ask, why isn't this the norm in biology class?

This is the second installment of A Scientist Walks Into A Distillery speaker series, hosted by our friends at Vermont Museum of Natural History in partnership with Vermont Distillers in Marlboro Vermont. Join in for a tasty drink at the cash bar, some snacks and some fascinating science! Doors open at 6:00, with the presentation starting at 6:30. Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.

Meet the Presenter: Nik Katrick

Nik Katrick is our Executive Director here at The Nature Museum in Grafton, VT. With a background in wolf biology, fiction writing, and nonprofit management, they weave science and story together to draw people into the mystery of the natural world. They studied at Marlboro College for their undergraduate and graduate degrees. When not at the museum, they are an active volunteer with the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Company, Chase Hill Kindred, and Earthspirit Community. They love to wander around the forest with their partner, build things, and write contemporary fantasy about werewolves.
